Arnaud Desplechin
Arnaud Desplechin began his career in 1991 with a medium-length film, LA VIE DES MORTS. His first feature film, LA SENTINELLE, was selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival.
He then directed COMMENT JE ME SUIS DISPUTÉ ... (MA VIE SEXUELLE), which introduced a whole new generation of talented actors. His actors have often received prestigious awards, including the César for Best Actor for Mathieu Amalric in ROIS ET REINES, the 61st Cannes Film Festival Award for Catherine Deneuve in UN CONTE DE NOËL, and the César for Best Actor for Roschdy Zem in ROUBAIX, UNE LUMIÈRE.
In 2016, his film TROIS SOUVENIRS DE MA JEUNESSE was nominated in 11 categories and earned him the César for Best Director. LES FANTÔMES D’ISMAËL, starring Mathieu Amalric, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Marion Cotillard, opened the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
In 2021, TROMPERIE, featuring Léa Seydoux, Denis Podalydès, and Emmanuelle Devos, was selected for the Cannes Première section on June 3, 2021.
His latest film, FRÈRE ET SŒUR, starring Marion Cotillard, Golshifteh Farahani, and Melvil Poupaud, tells the story of a brother and sister in their fifties who have not seen each other for about twenty years and are brought together again following their parents' death. The film was nominated in seven categories at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, competing for Best Screenplay, the Grand Prix, the Jury Prize, and the Palme d'Or.
Beyond feature films, Desplechin directed an episode of Season 2 of the series EN THÉRAPIE, which aired on ARTE in May 2022.
Arnaud has also made a notable debut in theater with August Strindberg's play PÈRE, a major success at the Comédie-Française. He returned to the stage in 2020 with an adaptation of ANGELS IN AMERICA by Tony Kushner.
