Yann Mounir Demange

Born in Paris and raised in London, of French-Algerian heritage, Yann Mounir Demange has always been drawn to unexpected stories. A graduate of the National Film and Television School, he made his name in British television with the BAFTA-nominated series Dead Set and the entire first season of Top Boy. Top Boy earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Director.

His feature debut, ‘71, starring Jack O’Connell, premiered in competition at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival. It won him the British Independent Film Award for Best Director and a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut. In the US, he directed White Boy Rick (2018), starring Matthew McConaughey, and the pilot of HBO’s Lovecraft Country (2020). He also executive produced Bassam Tariq’s Mogul Mowgli. In advertising, he has directed spots for Nike, FIFA and Instagram.

His short film Dammi, produced by VIXENS and AMI, starring Riz Ahmed, Souheila Yacoub and Isabelle Adjani, premiered at Locarno in 2023 and screened at Toronto on MUBI in July 2024. He is now making Lineage, a London crime thriller written by Enda Walsh and starring Isabelle Huppert, Dali Benssalah, Adam Bessa and Raye.
